  <dc:description xmlns:ns0="xml" ns0:lang="en">In this review, I summarize some aspects of murine pancreas development, with particular emphasis on the analysis of the ontogenetic relationships between different pancreatic cell types. Lineage analyses allow the identification of the progenitor cells from which mature cell types arise. The identification and successful in vitro culture of putative pancreatic stem cells is highly relevant for future cell replacement therapies in diabetic patients.</dc:description>
