<dc:description xmlns:ns1="xml" ns1:lang="en">This master's thesis concerns the study and conservation treatment of a 19th-century automaton clock-painting (inv. IV-913) held at the Musée international d'horlogerie, La Chaux-de-Fonds. This composite object combines an oil painting on a zinc plate, a gilded wooden frame, a three-dimensional cardboard and paper diorama, a Paris-type clock movement (Vincenti & Cie) and an independent automaton mechanism animating a ship and a simulated waterfall. The approach integrates historical and material study, technical examination, identification of cultural values, condition assessment, diagnosis, treatment proposal, treatment and critical discussion, in response to a mandate to stabilise the object, improve its appearance and restore both mechanisms to working order for an exhibition planned in 2027. The object is characterised by a layered material history: few components remain in their original state, and reconstructing the chronology of previous interventions directly shaped the treatment choices. The interventions addressed the consolidation of the frame weakened by former woodworm attacks (injection of Plexigum and hollow microspheres), treatment of the gilded surface (removal of old bronze paint, new bronze paint with a Plexigum binder, Laropal A81 varnish), cleaning and varnish removal of the painted plate with illusionist inpainting, consolidation of the paper and cardboard décor elements, and complete overhaul of both mechanisms (ultrasonic cleaning, lubrication). The work proposes a methodological approach.</dc:description>
