English A mRNA of larger size (4 Kb) than that of erythropoietin is found in hematopoietic tissues and macrophages after hybridization of Northern blots with an EPO cRNA probe. The cross-hybridizing fragment is located in the 3' untranslated region of the EPO mRNA. The level of this new mRNA is increased in anemic mice, which suggests that it might correspond to a molecule involved in erythropoietic regulation.
