English A modified ELISA for the detection of S. aureus strains producing toxic shock syndrome toxin (TSST-1) is described. Polystyrene balls are coated with specific sheep antibody and incubated with an over-night culture of suspected colonies. Biotinylated second antibody and an Avidin/biotinylated enzyme system are used to obtain an easily readable qualitative reaction.
