English Regioselective and chemoselective electrophilic bromination of a wide series of activated arenes using N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) in acetonitrile occurs readily. Environmentally friendly conditions, large substrate scope, and ease of synthesis enhance the utility of this method over other electrophilic bromination conditions.
