English In the rapidly evolving landscape of technology, edge computing and containerization promise
and deliver enhanced efficiency and reduced latency for many applications. This thesis introduces
Harbor Satellite, a novel container registry specifically designed for edge computing
scenarios.
The development of Harbor Satellite is motivated by the growing demand for localized container
management solutions that could leverage the benefits of both of these technologies. By
researching the state of the art it became evident that existing solutions are predominantly cloud
centric and complete ready-made solutions for edge computing are scarce or non-existent.
To demonstrate the feasibility and necessity of Harbor Satellite, the main goal of this thesis is
to explore multiple design possibilities, describe the implementation of one of them and finally
evaluate the completed proof of concept.
The results show that it is not only feasible but also offers significant benefits for edge
computing environments.
