English The Swiss video gaming industry, although characterized by creativity and innovation, faces significant challenges that hinder its ability to maximize revenue. This thesis explores the current state of the industry, identifies the primary obstacles, and proposes strategic initiatives to enhance its financial performance.
The main objective of this study is to determine how the Swiss video gaming industry can generate greater revenue. Through a comprehensive literature review and primary data collected from interviews with industry stakeholders, the research highlights several critical issues. These include the lack of major studios and publishers in Switzerland, high development and operational costs, limited government support, and the need for more significant production scales and frequent game releases.
Findings from the interviews indicate that the current infrastructure and support systems are inadequate, significantly impacting revenue generation. The absence of major studios and publishers in Switzerland is a substantial barrier, leading to a fragmented industry with small studios struggling to survive. Stakeholders emphasize the need for increased government support to attract major players and foster a more robust ecosystem. The literature review corroborates these insights, showcasing how countries like Canada and France have benefited from strong government backing and a supportive environment for the gaming industry.
To overcome these challenges, the thesis recommends several strategic initiatives. Key among them is the necessity for the Swiss government to recognize the video gaming industry as a priority sector, similar to its approach towards other cultural industries. Enhanced financial incentives, such as tax reliefs and substantial funding, are crucial to support the development and marketing of high-quality games. Additionally, fostering collaboration between small and large studios and improving educational programs tailored to game development can help retain talent and stimulate industry growth.
In conclusion, while the Swiss video gaming industry has shown remarkable growth and potential, realizing its full revenue potential requires significant structural and financial support. By adopting the recommended strategies, Switzerland can position itself as a competitive player in the global gaming market, ultimately driving economic growth and cultural innovation.
