English French German This Master's thesis deals with the examination and stabilization of a part of a Late Bronze Age, large-format storage vessel from the site Bussy, Pré de Fond, belonging to the Archaeological Office of the Canton of Fribourg (AAFR). The vessel is made of fragile pottery that has little cohesion. One part of the vessel was block lifted in 1997 and treated with consolidation products. The other part of the vessel was recovered fragment by fragment. In 2022, the block lifted part of the vessel was found in a fragile condition on a plaster support structure and without documentation on the premises of the AAFR.
In order to enable a possible scientific evaluation of the object, its manipulation, transport and long-term storage without further loss of material, an intervention concept is developed, which aims to stabilize and improve the legibility of the object. The concept includes the surface cleaning of the object with cotton swabs and ethanol, its consolidation with the organosilicon product NanoEstel®, the bonding of mobile fragments with Paraloid® B72, and the design of a support structure made of glass fiber-reinforced epoxy resin and of a box with an integrated lid. As part of the thesis, the cleaning, consolidation and bonding of the exterior surface of the block lifted part of the object is carried out.
The intervention concept is developed on basis of insights gained through investigation of the object’s history by means of archive research and discussions with AAFR employees. In addition to the research, a series of examinations and analyses are conducted to identify the consolidation products used in the excavation process. The results of which are also considered in the intervention concept. Furthermore, a series of test methods to determine suitable cleaning methods and consolidation products are developed and implemented. The outcome of those tests is also included in the concept development. Ce travail de Master porte sur l'étude et la stabilisation d'une partie d'une jarre de stockage de grand format de l'âge du Bronze final, provenant du site de Bussy, Pré de Fond, appartenant au Service archéologique de l’État de Fribourg (SAEF). Le récipient est constitué de céramique peu cohésive et fragile. Une partie a été fouillée en bloc en 1997 et a été traitée avec des produits de consolidation. L'autre partie a été prélevée fragment par fragment. En 2022, la partie du récipient récupérée en bloc a été retrouvée dans un état fragile sur une structure de soutien en plâtre et sans documentation dans les locaux du SAEF.
Afin de permettre une éventuelle étude scientifique de l'objet, sa manipulation, son transport ainsi qu'un stockage à long terme sans perte supplémentaire de matériel, un concept d’intervention est élaboré dans le but de stabiliser cette jarre et d'améliorer sa lisibilité. Celui-ci comprend le nettoyage de la surface de l'objet avec des cotons-tiges et de l'éthanol, la consolidation avec le produit organosilicié NanoEstel®, le collage des fragments mobiles avec du Paraloid® B72 ainsi que la conception d'une structure de soutien en résine époxy renforcée de fibres de verre et la fabrication d'une boîte avec couvercle intégré. Dans le cadre de ce travail, le nettoyage, la consolidation et le collage de la face extérieure de la partie du récipient prélevée en bloc sont réalisés.
Le concept d'intervention est élaboré à cet effet sur la base des résultats obtenus lors de la mise en évidence de l'histoire de l'objet au moyen de recherches dans les archives et d'entretiens avec des collaborateurs du SAEF et d'études et d'analyses visant à identifier les produits de consolidation utilisés dans le cadre du prélèvement. Le développement et la mise en oeuvre de tests sont effectués pour déterminer les méthodes de nettoyage et les produits de consolidation appropriés. Diese Masterarbeit befasst sich mit der Untersuchung und Stabilisierung eines Teils eines spätbronzezeitlichen, grossformatigen, von der Fundstelle Bussy, Pré de Fond stammenden Vorratsgefässes des Archäologischen Amtes des Kantons Freiburg (AAFR). Das Gefäss besteht aus wenig kohäsiver, fragiler Keramik. Ein Gefässteil wurde 1997 als Block geborgen und dabei mit Konsolidierungsprodukten behandelt. Die Bergung des anderen Gefässteils erfolgte Fragment für Fragment. 2022 wurde der blockgeborgene Gefässteil in fragilem Zustand auf einer Stützstruktur aus Gips und ohne Dokumentationsunterlagen in den Räumlichkeiten des AAFR aufgefunden.
Um eine eventuelle wissenschaftliche Auswertung des Objekts, Manipulationen, Transporte sowie die Langzeitlagerung ohne weiteren Materialverlust zu ermöglichen, wird ein Behandlungskonzept zur Stabilisierung und Verbesserung der Lesbarkeit des Objekts erarbeitet. Dieses umfasst die Reinigung der Objektoberfläche mit Wattestäbchen und Ethanol, eine Konsolidierung mit dem Kieselsolprodukt NanoEstel®, die Klebung mobiler und anpassender Fragmente mit Paraloid® B72 sowie die Konzeption einer Stützstruktur aus glasfaserverstärktem Epoxidharz und die Anfertigung einer Schachtel mit integriertem Deckel. Im Rahmen der Arbeit werden die Reinigung, Konsolidierung und Klebung der Aussenseite der blockgeborgenen Gefässhälfte durchgeführt.
Das Interventionskonzept wird dabei anhand der Erkenntnisse, die bei der Herausarbeitung der Objektgeschichte mittels Archivrecherchen und Gesprächen mit Mitarbeitenden des AAFR gewonnen werden, erarbeitet. Auch werden die Resultate von Untersuchungen und Analysen zur Identifikation, der im Rahmen der Bergung eingesetzten Konsolidierungsprodukte, berücksichtigt. Des Weiteren werden die Ergebnisse der Entwicklung und Durchführung von Testmethoden zur Ermittlung geeigneter Reinigungsmethoden und Konsolidierungsprodukte bei der Konzepterarbeitung miteinbezogen.
